Tasty Grains

tastygrainsOtis Spunkmeyer, the beloved cookie brand, launched a new product of all-natural bars. Like other Otis Spunkmeyer products, the bars are shipped frozen, baked in-house, and sold as a fresh, healthier breakfast or snacking alternative. The client asked for our help branding and launching the product, which included naming, marketing, and packaging.

tastygrains2The client chose a simple, easy-to-grasp concept. We called the product “Tasty Grains” so consumers recognized it as a delicious, whole-grain snack. The bars are made with natural ingredients, so we wanted to shoot imagery that would make a quick, visual connection. Our recommendation was to literally show what is baked into the bar.

I worked with my art director partner on the entire project. We chose to use hand-lettering and natural paper to represent how carefully Otis Spunkmeyer had crafted this product. We used fresh ingredients to show how wholesome they are. Visually, these ingredients represent the shape of the bar and what’s found in them — which is nothing but 100% wholesome foods. The great thing? The University of Kansas Union offers these bars in several dining locations, so I have a sense of pride every time I see them — which is basically anytime I forget to bring coffee from home. (And that is always.)
